Victoria International Education Newsletter, June 2020

Dear International Education Community,

As we move into June’s beautiful weather, I wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude for your continued support during these unique times. I am happy to report that our region, Vancouver Island has managed the pandemic very well we have only one active COVID-19 case as of May 28, 2020. For context, Vancouver Island is similar in geographic size to the Netherlands with a population of about 900,000 people. We are also pleased that our schools are resuming in-class instruction on June 1, 2020 with enhanced health and safety measures in place.

I have attached a graphic from the BC government which illustrates the BC plan for K-12 education. We do expect our schools to reopen at full capacity in September 2020.

We are currently working on plans to support student arrivals in August and September. This will include detailed safety plans and a warm welcome for student arrivals at airports and in homestays. We will be sending this information out at the beginning of July with the next newsletter once we have a better understanding of the required process. Please note, this may include some form of self-quarantine, as required by the Canadian government. These measures will be designed to ensure maximum levels of student and homestay safety and overall well being.

Sincerely,
Director
