Dear Students, Parents and Education Partners,
As you may be aware, the British Columbia Ministry of Education announced that K to 12 in-class instruction in BC is suspended until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please refer to our school district website: www.sd43.bc.ca for regular updates. You will then see the letter from the Minister of Education Rob Fleming dated March 17th, 2020.
The Minister of Education, Mr. Rob Fleming, stated that educators in School Districts will work together to provide other learning options. The planning for this learning will occur during and after spring break.
The following information was provided in the Minister’s briefing:
- Every student will receive a final mark;
- All students on track to graduate this year will graduate;
- The province is working with post-secondary institutions to make sure the transition for our grade 12 graduates is supported.
Continuity of Learning and Educational Opportunities:
After Spring Break, Coquitlam School District is making plans to provide continuity of learning and educational opportunities for all students. Once we know the details, we will share further information. As of now, we are in the planning stages.
As long as students remain in Canada, they will have implied status and will have the opportunity to continue their studies. We understand, in this time of uncertainty, that parents may want their children to return home. The Canadian border is currently only open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada. If an international student leaves Canada, they will lose their ability to enter Canada for the foreseeable future.
We currently do not have answers about whether learning can continue offshore.
Our refund policy has not changed. Should students decide to return home there will be no refund for the current school year as per our refund policy. Please refer to our website www.internationaled.com
Our refund policy is located at:
The Coquitlam School District will continue to provide information to all our stakeholders as the entire world braces and works through this challenging time. We look forward to the arrival of spring and your continued positive experience in beautiful British Columbia.
Mr. Geoffrey Johnston
School District No. 43 (Coquitlam)
