March 20, 2020

Dear Partners, as you are aware that the Ministry of Education in British Columbia has suspended all in class learning.  Since that announcement early this week, school districts have been working tirelessly on their District continuity of learning plans.  We just want to re-iterate that the purpose of the learning plan is to ensure that:

  • All students will receive final grades, this means that students will need to participate in the District continuity of learning plan for their classes. Students will need to demonstrate that they have completed the work and at a level that would permit them to receive a passing grade.
  • Students on track will move to the next grade, this means that students will need to pass the courses that they are currently in by participating in their classes as outlined in the District continuity of learning plan.
  • Students who are eligible to graduate will graduate, this does not mean that if students are currently not passing some courses or are missing some courses to graduate that they will be eligible.  Students will need to pass the courses that they are currently in by participating in their classes as outlined in the District continuity of learning plan and meet all class requirements to acquire the credits necessary for graduation.
  • Ministry is working with post-secondary partners to ensure that the process for admissions and transitions to post-secondary is smooth.

In addition to these commitments made by the Ministry of Education, Mission Public Schools is permitting International Students to complete their class requirements as outlined in the District continuity of learning plan from their home country.  We don’t have the details of the delivery method of the plan at this time but will continue to update our partners as information emerges.  We do encourage agents and families to make the decision of where they want their students to receive their education while remaining in our International Program.

We are asking that partners continue to keep us informed about the travel plans for students. We support family’s decisions and if a student’s family decides that it is best that they participate from their home country, we will need to have a current email address and an in country cell phone number to allow our International team and teachers to communicate with students.

Please continue to follow our school district webpage at mpsd.ca and our twitter feed at @studyinmission for ongoing updates.

Please share this information with your students and their families.

Thank you again for your ongoing support and understanding during this evolving situation,

Colleen Hannah
