20/05/2020 - Canadá - Ontario - Upper Grand - Cierre de escuelas hasta final de curso [EN]

Hello Everyone,

I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well during this unpredictable time.  As I am sure that most of you are now aware, on Tuesday, May 19, Premier Ford and Education Minister Lecce announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Ontario schools will not re-open for the remainder of the school year.  Please know that distance learning will continue until June 26, which will give our students the opportunity to improve their marks and build on the skills necessary to be successful in their upcoming school year.  As well, final report cards will be made available once all final grades are submitted.  Report cards should be emailed at the beginning of July.

Our district wants families to know that we are very aware that this is a challenging time, and being an International Student during this time, creates an additional layer of obstacles for both our students that have remained in Canada and for those who have returned home.  We want to acknowledge their outstanding efforts, courage and perseverance.

Due to this announcement, we expect that more of our students will consider returning home earlier than originally anticipated.  Please know, that should this be decided, the students can continue their learning from their home country if they can access their Google Classroom.

Attached, please find a letter for our parents from Minister Lecce.  In this letter, Lecce identifies that our schools need to remain closed to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our students.  He also briefly mentions opportunities for summer learning and forecasts that September may look different from what we are accustomed.

If your students are interested in pursuing summer learning, more information will be available shortly.  In the meantime, please visit our UGDSB Continuing Education website at https://www.ugdsb.ca/continuing-education/credit-courses/summer-school/ to see what is currently available.

Thanks to all of you for your patience, understanding and support during this unprecedented crisis.  Together, we will get through this.

As the curve seems to be flattening in many places around the world, let us hope that we can all find a new normal soon, where we can enjoy our families and friends again.

Until we can safely meet again; take care, be safe and be well,
